Secretary to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa RWP RSP PSC, has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
Discussions during the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning were focused on the effectiveness of the rehabilitation efforts currently underway in Sri Lanka in order to lay the foundations of a peaceful and prosperous nation.
In his remarks, the President underscored the long and close relationship that exists between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
In particular, the President commended Sri Lankan efforts made in rehabilitation, resettlement, infra-structure and bringing normalcy to the lives of its people after the end of its long civil war.
The President further expressed certainty that the lives of the people of Sri Lanka will flourish under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At the meeting Secretary to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa RWP RSP PSC, highlighted his view that the Maldives National Defence Force was comparatively capable and well-trained.
The meeting was also attended by Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Advisor of Political Affairs Mohamed Shihab and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem.
