President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the purpose for the initiation of the government’s health insurance scheme “Madhana” was to provide quality social security and affordable healthcare for all the people of the country. The President made this remrk while speaking at the handing over ceremony of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital to ProMedKlinik of Germany.

President Nasheed said that the government targets at providing all health services available in the country to all citizen in a cost effective way, and at the same time work at improving those services. He also said that starting January next year, the government will provide health insurance for all the people of the Maldives under “Madhana”.

President Nasheed noted that sustainable development can only be achieved by making sure that all agencies were run economically and cost effectively. Speaking in this regard, the President said that the 7 Health Service Corporations of the country should carry out their works in the same way, in administering the respective hospitals and health centres under their jurisdiction.

The agreement for handing over Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to ProMedKlinik of Germany was signed by the Managing Director of Upper North Health Service Corporation Badruddeen Hassan, and the President of ProMedKlinik Norbert Seis.
