President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with Prince Pieter-Christiaan Michiel of Orange-Nassau, van Vollenhoven of the Netherlands.

Prince Peiter-Christiaan is the third son of Princess Margriet, younger sister of current monarch of the Netherlands Queen Beatrix.

Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President noted that engagements between the Maldives and the Netherlands have significantly increased over the past few years. He especially noted major projects in the Maldives by Dutch Docklands and Royal Boskalis Westminster of the Netherlands.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan explained the President the purpose of his current visit to the Maldives. The Prince is visiting the Maldives as a part of a dive group that conducts regular visits to the Maldives.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan also updated the President on a Dutch renewable energy project and a proposed project on climate adaptation in the Maldives.
