President Mohamed Nasheed, as part of his tour to Raa Atoll, has visited Vaadhoo and Angolhitheemu.

Meeting Vaadhoo Island Council Wednesday afternoon, the President discussed with councillors on improving the standard of public health service delivery through the council.

The government has earlier this year decentralized and mandated public health service provision to island councils.

Further, the President noted that standard of education in the island was comparatively better, he urged the island council to work with residents and school management to continuously improve the standard education in the island.

While in Vaadhoo, the President visited Vaadhoo School and Vaadhoo Health Centre and met the management of both institutions. He also toured the island’s farming area and waste disposal area.

The President arrived in Angolhitheemu Wednesday evening. Before meeting the council this morning, the President inaugurated an exhibition of items made using waste materials organised by Angolhitheemu School Wednesday evening. He also visited Angolhitheemu Health Centre yesterday evening.

Discussions in the meeting with Angolhitheemu Island Council were also generally centred on providing public health services and improving the standard of education in the island.

The President will attend the 25 anniversary function of Angolhitheemu School to be held this morning. Last night he unveiled the silver jubilee anniversary monument of the school.
