The first ever Community Cabinet meeting has begun at Hithadhoo Muhibbuddeen School in Addu City.
President Mohamed Nasheed, in his opening remarks, highlighted the areas of focus at the meeting.
The Cabinet earlier decided to focus on four areas – economic development, infrastructure, social development and good governance – at the meeting. After each presentation, the President and Cabinet ministers will respond to questions from the general public.
Presentation on social sector will focus on education, health, social protection, youth, sports and human resource development. Presentation on infrastructure development will focus on housing, harbour and road construction, shore protection, water and sewerage, energy and preparations for the SAARC Summit.
Decentralization, addressing drug abuse and crime prevention will be main themes on the presentation on good governance, while transportation, tourism, reducing the cost of living, small and medium enterprises and commercial harbour development will be the main themes in the presentation on economic development.
