Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Kunio Takahashi has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
During the meeting at the President’s Office, the Japanese Ambassador expressed gratitude to the President, the people and the government of the Maldives for the support and aid for the people of Japan in their time of need following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The Ambassador also praised the government’s efforts to garner international support for Japan after the disaster.
In addition, the Ambassador noted the efforts of the Maldivian government in promoting the values of democracy and human rights in the international arena.
The President reiterated that Japan has continued to be one of the most important development partners of the Maldives. He expressed his appreciation for the immense contributions from Japan for the development of the Maldives since early 1970s.
The President also underscored the importance being understanding of the situation in Japan and getting international support and aid to relieve the difficult situation in Japan.
