President Mohamed Nasheed has met with Speaker of People’s Majlis Abdulla Shahid today.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the Speaker told the President that he was working with all political parties represented in the People’s Majlis to expedite the passage of bills as well as all the other matter presented to the Majlis.
Referring to the incident that forced today’s sitting of the People’s Majlis to cut short, the Speaker expressed his discontent over the frequency of such incidents.
The President also expressed concern over the frequent discontinuation of Majlis sittings due to disagreements over procedural matters and partisan politics on the floor while much work remains to be done by the People’s Majlis.
In addition, the Speaker spoke on the constraints on the work of the People’s Majlis due to lack of space. He also briefed the President on Majlis’ efforts to ease the situation.
The President said he would provide assistance to the Majlis’ efforts to resolve its spatial needs.
