Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has met with the group of youth from United Kingdom’s Young Muslims Advisory Group (YMAG) currently in the Maldives on a study tour.

Discussions held during the meeting were focused on observations of the group in their three day tour to assess the role of women in Islam and the Maldivian society.

During their visit to the Maldives, they have visited Kulhudhuffushi and Hanimaadhoo, and held an interactive session with the students from Centre for Higher Secondary Education in Male’.

Vice President Dr Waheed spoke on the role of women in Maldivian society, and external and internal factors inhibiting participation of Muslims as active members within their societies around the world.

The Vice President also highlighted on Islamic unity in the Maldives and the importance of an Islamic democracy.

The Young Muslims Advisory Group spoke on their observations of youth initiatives in Britain to increase the civic participation of young Muslims.
