High Commissioner of Singapore accredited to the Maldives Dr. Chua Yong Hai has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.

Discussions at the meeting, held at the President’s Office, were focused on advancing the close relations that exist between the Maldives and Singapore.

At the meeting, the President underscored that Singapore has been an important development partner of the Maldives, and Maldivians see Singapore as an exemplary state in all aspects.

The President and the High Commissioner also exchange views on the group of Singaporean students visiting the Maldives under a student exchange programme run by Singapore.

Currently, 20 Singaporean students are in the Maldives.

President Nasheed noted that these visits serve to further strengthen the bond between the peoples of both countries and broaden the worldview of students.

The President and the Singaporean High Commissioner highlighted on the active role played by the Maldives in global climate change debates.

The meeting was also attended by Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem.
