President Mohamed Nasheed today met with British Member of Parliament for Romford Andrew Rosindell.

 
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President underscored the local council elections to be held in the Maldives on 5 February. He emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about decentralisation and the elections.
 
The President also noted that campaigning for the elections were going on in a peaceful and a competitive democratic environment.
 
MP Rosindell said that democracy was flourishing and sustainable in the Maldives. He noted that democracy was embedded in the Maldives society quicker compared to other new democracies.
 

MP Rosindell joined British Conservative Party in 1981 at the age of 14. He was elected to House of Commons in 2001.
