As part of the tour of Huvadhu Atoll, that he began this morning, President Mohamed Nasheed has visited Nadalla and Rathafandhoo of South Huvadhu Atoll, this afternoon.
Addressing the people of both islands, the President underscored the achievements of the government over the past two years in delivering its pledges, especially those to provide social security and affordable healthcare. He said the government has been able to provide social security, through its programmes, to the poorest and the most vulnerable in the country.
Speaking on the social and economic benefits of the government´s social security programme, he said the monthly total of Rf128,000 given to 64 residents of Nadalla and Rf212,000 given to 106 residents of Rathafandhoo was a vital injection that help sustain and contribute to the growth of economies of these two islands.
On the pledge to provide affordable healthcare, he said 180 people of Nadalla and 316 people of Rathafandhoo were provided health insurance through Madhana social health insurance programme.
The President said, the government´s aim was ensuring prosperity and increasing wealth of the people, and it would establish all necessary mechanisms through which people could achieve prosperity and wealth.
In Rathafandhoo, he further revealed that the government would begin building shore protection around eroding areas and developing the sporting ground in the island this year.
