President Mohamed Nasheed has said, for the first time, all the schools in the Maldives had the required number of teachers when this academic year began.
He made the assertion, speaking in Rasmaadhoo of Raa Atoll this afternoon on the government’s success of the government’s education policy.
For instance, the President said when his administration took office in November 2008, the total number of Dhivehi and Islam teachers in the country was less than half of the required number, while today all schools had the required number of teachers.
Acknowledging that a few classes in some schools began without some of the necessary schools, the President said all students now had all the necessary arrangements to complete the academic year.
President also noted that under the government’s policy of providing a well-rounded and holistic education for all, Rasmaadhoo School from this year was made a single-session school. He expressed confidence of increasing the number of students who achieve passes in 5 subjects by 50 percent following the change of Rasmaadhoo School to a single-session school.
Highlighting the achievements of the government in delivering its electoral pledges in Rasmaadhoo, the President said 156 people of the island were included in the social health insurance scheme, Madhana, as part of the government’s pledge to provide affordable healthcare.
He also underscored that a total of 50 residents of Rasmaadhoo received the pension this administration began providing to people above the age of 65 years.
He also revealed that government would commence building the islands sewerage system this year.
