The government has decided that special awards for achieving distinctions in international competitions and exhibitions and the recipients of doctoral degrees would be conferred by the respective government authority.
Recipients of the special awards will be selected by a committee, which will be formed by the respective authority, based on selection criteria stipulated in the directive issued by the President’s Office, today.
It was also announced that special prizes for producing literary books for children government approved standards, will no longer be presented at the Republic Day function. Instead, it was decided to add the category of producing children’s books to the literary competitions organised by National Centre for Linguistics and Historical Research.
