Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called on participants of the 38th National Quran Competition to remain committed to reciting the Holy Quran and deepening their understanding of its teachings.
He made the call while speaking at the opening ceremony of the competition, held at the Islamic Centre.
The Vice President highlighted society’s collective responsibility to foster a love for the Holy Quran, promote Quranic education and encourage the habit of recitation, helping to nurture generations that maintain a close bond with the Holy Quran. He said the competition was an important step towards achieving these goals.
The Vice President reminded participants that their relationship with the Holy Quran should not end with the competition. He encouraged them to continue learning from the Quran and embody its teachings through their actions and conduct, becoming role models who contribute positively to the nation and society. He also called on parents and guardians to place greater emphasis on nurturing and sustaining their children’s love for the Quran, rather than focusing solely on competition results.
He also highlighted the efforts of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to advance Islamic and Quranic education. In this regard, he noted the establishment of state-of-the-art Islamic Centres across the country and increased training opportunities for teachers.
As with last year’s competition, this year’s competition is being conducted in three rounds. In addition to Malé, audition rounds were held across 20 regions of the Maldives during June and July. The recitations of the 379 participants selected for the semi-final round will be held from 11 to 14 September, while the 150 participants selected for the final round will compete from 16 to 17 September.
