Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Maldives, Her Excellency Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.
The Ambassador was escorted in a traditional 'Haiykolhu' cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
The President accepted the Letter of Credence and formally welcomed Her Excellency Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra as the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Maldives.
Following the ceremony, the President and the Ambassador engaged in discussions covering several areas of mutual interest, including health sector development, higher education, training programmes, and sports cooperation, with particular emphasis on volleyball. The Ambassador conveyed her appreciation for the Maldives’ steadfast support at the United Nations, and both parties affirmed their dedication to deepening and advancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Cuba were established on 29 January 1977.
