Non-Resident Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Maldives, His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Mohammed Odowa, presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

The Ambassador was escorted in a traditional 'Haiykolhu' cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

The President accepted the Letter of Credence and formally welcomed His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Mohammed Odowa as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Following the ceremony, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on promoting peace and security in the Indian Ocean and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Somalia were established on 10 March 1988.
