President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that the Government will remain steadfast in its commitment to strengthening the Maldives' national security services, describing the continued development of the country's defence and law enforcement institutions as a national duty.
The President made the remarks while addressing the official ceremony commemorating the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education on Sunday evening.
In his address, the President described the Maldives Police Service as a vital pillar of the nation's executive authority, entrusted with maintaining public order and safeguarding peace and security. He paid tribute to police officers and their families, acknowledging the sacrifices they continue to make in service to the nation.
The President noted that the Maldives Police Service has, over the years, worked closely with the public to maintain peace, strengthen community safety and protect society from harmful influences. While recognising the challenges of policing, he reaffirmed that the Government would continue taking all necessary measures to ensure that the Police Service is equipped to deliver efficient, high-quality services to the public.
He stated that the Government's commitment includes introducing legislative reforms, embracing modern technologies and strengthening human resource development to further enhance policing capabilities.
Highlighting key infrastructure initiatives, the President announced that an additional police service centre and a modern police headquarters would be established in the Greater Malé area to improve service delivery. He also said that the Police Training Centre in Dh. Vaanee would be upgraded into a state-of-the-art training facility. In addition, he noted that ongoing projects to establish dedicated police facilities across the country are expected to be completed next year.
The President also observed that much of the work undertaken by police officers goes unnoticed, yet delivers meaningful and lasting benefits to society. He said these contributions are made with sincerity, integrity and a deep sense of patriotism.
Concluding his address, the President reaffirmed the Government's commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and their families by expanding housing opportunities and other forms of support, expressing confidence that these efforts would deliver tangible results.
During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu presented the President's Medal and the President's Ribbon to police officers in recognition of their exemplary service. He also presented commemorative plaques to long-serving members of the Maldives Police Service in appreciation of their loyal and dedicated service to both the institution and the nation.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the ceremony alongside the President. They were received by Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan and Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed. An honour guard was presented to the President upon his arrival.
