His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended felicitations to the government and the brotherly people of Pakistan in letters addressed to His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and His Excellency Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
In his letter to President Zardari, President Dr Muizzu expressed confidence that, guided by shared aspirations for the progress of both countries and the region, the friendship and cooperation between the two nations will continue to go from strength to strength, both bilaterally and in the international arena.
In his letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the President emphasised the importance the Maldives has always attached to the brotherly ties it shares with Pakistan. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966, the two countries have maintained close ties marked by constructive engagements, with the partnership growing steadily. President Dr Muizzu noted that relations have been further reinforced by enduring bonds of friendship and goodwill shared between the people of both countries, and in upholding the spirit of solidarity within the Muslim Ummah.
The President highlighted the long-standing cordial relations founded on common faith and a steadfast commitment to mutual development and progress. He extended his personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Pakistan.
Pakistan Day is observed annually on 23 March to commemorate the Lahore Resolution of 1940.
