His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and Her Excellency Dr Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on the occasion of the 78th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka.

In his letter to the President, President Dr Muizzu noted that the celebration comes at a moment when Sri Lanka continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience in its pursuit of further economic stability, social harmony and national progress. He highlighted the close and long-standing friendship between the two countries, strengthened by decades of cooperation and shared regional priorities.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the strong history of friendship and cooperation shared by the two countries, expressing confidence that the partnership will continue to grow, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as trade, development and regional stability.

The President extended personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Sri Lanka.

On his official X account, the President highlighted centuries-old ties and described Sri Lanka as one of the Maldives' closest and most trustworthy friends, wishing the nation enduring unity and resolve.

Sri Lanka's Independence Day is observed annually on 4 February to commemorate the nation's independence from British colonial rule in 1948.
