President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to advancing climate action and environmental protection on the occasion of World Environment Day.

In a message shared on his official X account, the President highlighted the close link between the future of humanity and the health of the planet. He noted that, as a Small Island Developing State on the frontline of climate challenges, the Maldives remains acutely aware of the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment.

The President stated that the Maldives continues to pursue ambitious climate initiatives, including the Project Solar City programme, strengthening disaster preparedness and early warning systems, and promoting community-based adaptation and ecosystem protection measures.

He further noted that climate change is affecting people, ecosystems and natural resources worldwide, and emphasised that addressing these challenges requires collective global action focused on adaptation, mitigation and sustainable practices.

President Dr Muizzu concluded by calling for greater awareness, shared responsibility and cooperation to protect the environment and build a safer, more prosperous future for generations to come.

Additionally, in a video message shared by TheFeedMV on social media platforms, the President called on all Maldivians to embrace environmental protection as a national responsibility. He urged citizens across the country to actively participate in the Government’s Five Million Trees Project and encouraged the organisation of tree-planting programmes throughout the Maldives. The President also appealed to young people to take the lead in environmental initiatives and contribute towards building a greener Maldives.
