President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the first fuel skid aimed at providing fuel at reduced prices for fishermen. The facility was established as part of his ongoing visit to Dhuvaafaru, North Maalhosmadulu, to mark this year’s Fishermen’s Day.

The fuel skid initiative was launched as part of the Administration’s efforts to ease the systemic issues facing the fisheries industry. Fishermen had raised the issue of fuel availability and affordability in the consultations held with the President. The newly inaugurated facility is the first of its kind, with similar fuel skids to be installed across various regions of the country. The project was assigned to the State Trading Organisation (STO).

Under this initiative, a total of 18 fuel skids are to be established nationwide, with STO assuring that the facilities will be operational by the end of March 2026.

During the visit, the President and the First Lady will also oversee the launch of several new development projects and attend ceremonies marking the completion of a number of projects on the island. The President is accompanied on the visit by several Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from key Government institutions.
