First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has drawn attention to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), urging swift, collective action to protect public health, food security, and the economy.

In a message shared on her official X account, the First Lady highlighted the Maldives’ National Action Plan on AMR (2024–2029), noting its central aims: promoting the responsible use of antibiotics and strengthening the One Health approach linking human, animal, and environmental health. These priorities reflect the plan’s broader direction, including reinforced governance and improved surveillance across sectors, building on progress achieved under the first action plan (2017–2022).

Reaffirming the need to use antibiotics wisely, the First Lady called on communities and stakeholders to act now to preserve the effectiveness of essential medicines, as the Maldives marks World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 2025.
