President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that diplomacy remains the central approach for Maldivians in safeguarding their national interests. He made the remarks at the “Rayyithunnaa Eku Kuriah – Hafthaa 104” function, held to commemorate two years of the current Administration.
He highlighted the Maldives First diplomatic strategy as the foundation of the Administration’s achievements over the past two years, noting that the initiation and expansion of trade and commercial ties with other nations have been key outcomes of this approach.
The President noted that embassies have been established in Qatar and Türkiye, with non-resident ambassadors appointed to 27 countries as part of the diplomatic outreach efforts. He also drew attention to recent appointments made to several international agencies.
President Dr Muizzu stated that the Administration has prioritised strengthening relations with Arab and Islamic nations, citing the Maldives’ inclusion in the Makkah Route Initiative as a significant milestone. He expressed gratitude to the Saudi authorities for facilitating this.
The President further noted that agreements have been signed with countries such as Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia and Dominica to facilitate visa-free travel to the Maldives. He added that Aasandha services have been introduced in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates for Maldivians seeking medical treatment abroad.
The President assured that, through these measures, Maldivians will see accelerated national development.
