First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised that national progress is founded on both intellectual and vocational prowess. She highlighted the importance of harnessing both mental and physical capabilities, enhancing productivity and creativity, and urged young people to take full advantage of training opportunities available to them.

The First Lady made these remarks after officially inaugurating the SkillFest at the Maldives Polytechnic this morning. The three-day open day showcases the institution’s pivotal role in empowering the nation through skills development, knowledge enhancement, and vocational training.

In her address, the First Lady highlighted that every individual possesses a unique set of skills that should be nurtured and developed over time. She noted that the training opportunities offered by the Maldives Polytechnic are open to all and encouraged people to take full advantage of them to improve their livelihoods.

Reflecting on the Maldives’ creative heritage, the First Lady spoke of the adaptability of past generations in responding to an ever-changing world. She expressed confidence in the potential of Maldivian youth to rekindle the nation’s spirit of industriousness, particularly amid emerging opportunities.

The First Lady also commended the Maldives Polytechnic for its significant contributions over the past five decades in fostering creativity and industriousness across the country. She expressed her gratitude to all who have supported the institution throughout its journey.

Following the inauguration, the First Lady unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the Polytechnic’s 50th anniversary and was presented with a special memento by the institution. She also toured the exhibition stalls and interacted with students and staff to learn more about the programmes on offer.

Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, senior officials of the Maldives Polytechnic, and members of the diplomatic corps attended the ceremony.
