President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that bringing tangible development to K. Kaashidhoo and shaping projects according to the community's aspirations is an objective he is committed to achieving.
The President gave this assurance whilst speaking to the residents of Kaashidhoo during his visit to the island today, as part of his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands in Maaleatholhu that he had not previously visited in an official capacity.
During his address, the President delivered hopeful news regarding the island's development. He acknowledged that whilst Kaashidhoo is geographically located in a strategically important area, its residents live in relative isolation. In addressing this challenge, the President emphasised the importance of ensuring easy access to healthcare services. He announced that building a Health Centre extension is a crucial priority, with plans for the facility to include X-ray and scanning services, additional ward beds, and expanded space for clinical work.
On infrastructure development, the President confirmed that the harbour project has been designated as the most important new initiative for Kaashidhoo in the 2026 budget, with construction set to begin next year.
The President also outlined the Administration's efforts to expand tourism on the island. He explained that securing investors through the second, incentivised opportunity to develop a resort in the Kaashidhoo lagoon, and the subsequent development of tourism, will bring progress to the island in various ways. To support this growth, he announced that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service will be established for Kaashidhoo, and efforts are underway to schedule seaplane flights once tourism operations expand.
Furthermore, with the Food Security Programme agreement for K. Kaashidhoo being formalised today, the President highlighted that this initiative will drive progress for both the island's residents and its economy.
