President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that services at the Lhaimagu Health Centre will be extended to 16 hours upon completion of a new building. He made the announcement while addressing residents and local leaders of Lhaimagu in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands.

Although the commencement of physical works on three major projects – the additional building for the Lhaimagu Health Centre, the Fitness and Recreation Centre, and the new Council Secretariat building – was delayed due to heavy rainfall, the President assured that all projects would proceed as scheduled.

Highlighting further development plans, President Dr Muizzu stated that the new Health Centre building will include expanded ward capacity and enhanced laboratory services to support 16-hour operations. He also confirmed that the stalled Waste Management Centre project will be reassigned to a new contractor to resume work.

Additional initiatives include the turfing and upgrading of the futsal pitch, the construction of a handball court within the year, and the inclusion of a new school office building in the upcoming budget. The President also outlined plans to develop a harbour, establish a swimming track, and open a branch of the Centre for the Holy Quran. He further assured that ongoing electricity issues will be resolved as scheduled by Fenaka Corporation.

During the meeting, residents raised key development concerns, including improvements to the pre-school, opportunities for housing on private plots through long-term payment schemes, and the continuation of essential infrastructure projects.

Concluding the meeting, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing and planned development projects on the island. He noted that the Government now monitors and reviews the progress of projects on a daily basis to ensure timely implementation.

In recognition of his visit and continued support for the island’s development, the people of Lhaimagu presented a commemorative plaque to the President.
