President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will allocate MVR 500 million each to the health and education sectors in the upcoming 2026 State Budget.

He made the announcement while addressing residents of Funadhoo in North Miladhummadulu Atoll during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands.

President Dr Muizzu underscored his Administration’s developmental agenda and affirmed that the forthcoming budget will place unprecedented emphasis on the education and health sectors. He further noted that a range of new initiatives will be launched across both sectors to promote sustained development.

In education, the Government will focus on enhancing inclusive education and expanding higher secondary opportunities nationwide. Plans include creating inclusive classrooms for students with disabilities in all schools and training additional teachers in special education. President Dr Muizzu added that students will also benefit from expanded pathways to pursue higher secondary education in their chosen disciplines, alongside the establishment of a vocational high school next year.

In the health sector, the President stated that additional measures will be implemented in 2026 to enhance the domestic availability of medical tests and surgeries that currently require travel abroad. He asserted that the Government is committed to advancing health services through targeted interventions in Malé City, regional hospitals, and priority islands. In this regard, the national health policy will prioritise both preventive and curative care to ensure comprehensive well-being for all Maldivians.
