President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of Sh. Bileiyfahi that the land reclamation and development of the island’s airport will be completed within 30 months.

Addressing the public during his visit to the island, the President highlighted the benefits the airport would bring to both the local community and the wider region. He emphasised that the project will proceed without delays and that visible progress will be evident on a daily basis.

The development and operation of Bileiyfahi Airport has been be undertaken by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), following the formalisation of an agreement during the President’s visit earlier today.

President Dr Muizzu outlined several other key development initiatives planned for Bileiyfahi. He reaffirmed that the island’s water and sewerage project would remain a priority and assured that solutions would be provided to resolve the stalled waste management project.

The President observed the significance of the harbour project, adding that the development project would proceed in consultation with the island’s residents.

In the education sector, he noted that work is set to commence construction of eight classrooms and a multipurpose hall within the year. Meanwhile, the health centre will expand to provide 16-hour services, with the necessary staff and resources allocated to ensure proper operation.

Further plans for the island include the development of a handball and volleyball court, as well as a modern football stadium, all earmarked in the 2026 Budget and scheduled to commence next year.
