President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a Decree amending the questions to be posed in the forthcoming referendum intended to seek the views of residents on the jurisdictional composition of Addu City, particularly concerning the constituencies of Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo.

The Presidential Decree No. 31/2025 was issued today, amending Presidential Decree No. 27/2025, which was published on 6 October 2025. The amendment was made pursuant to Article 115(p) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Section 4(c) of the Public Referendum Act (Act No. 15/2025), upon the recommendation of the Cabinet.

The new Decree removes the question relating to the possible establishment of a combined council for Addu Hulhudhoo and Addu Meedhoo.

Accordingly, the referendum will now seek the opinion of residents on the establishment of separate councils for the constituencies of Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo. The revised questions to be posed in the referendum are as follows:

For the residents of Addu Hulhudhoo:
1. Should a separate council be established for Addu Hulhudhoo?

For the residents of Addu Meedhoo:
1. Should a separate council be established for Addu Meedhoo?

For the residents of Addu Feydhoo:
1. Should a separate council be established for Addu Feydhoo?

As announced by the Elections Commission, the referendum will be open to all registered voters within the relevant constituencies and is scheduled to take place on 25 October 2025.
