President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the land reclamation project for ADh. Mahibadhoo is among the most significant development initiatives for the island and will proceed without interruption, with 67 hectares of reclaimed land to be handed over to residents within the next ten months.
He gave this assurance while addressing the residents of Mahibadhoo this evening, highlighting that the project is a major step towards transforming the island into a key urban centre within the network of developments across the Maldives. He described it as a vital undertaking that would accelerate the island’s overall growth and pave the way for the much-needed housing project for its residents.
The physical phase of the reclamation work commenced today, with the President reiterating that the project would advance at full speed and emphasising its importance in achieving sustainable development.
Addressing the community’s housing concerns, President Dr Muizzu announced that the construction of 150 housing units will be included in the forthcoming 2026 Budget, with work scheduled to begin early next year. He further revealed that construction of a 50-bed hospital is also set to commence in 2026.
Turning to education, the President shared positive updates, reaffirming that the sector remains a top priority for his Administration. He assured residents that by 2026, all students and teachers across the Maldives will have access to air-conditioned classrooms and staff rooms. He also reaffirmed that infrastructural development in the education sector will continue at a rapid pace.
The President added that Mahibadhoo will benefit from key investments to strengthen its sports sector. He emphasised that these initiatives are not symbolic gestures but part of a sincere effort to translate the people’s aspirations into tangible progress.
