President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with guesthouse operators from ADh. Hangnaameedhoo at the newly inaugurated Council Secretariat, where discussions centred on the island’s tourism development priorities.
During the meeting, the President encouraged Hangnaameedhoo’s guesthouse operators in their efforts to strengthen the island’s tourism sector and discussed the challenges hindering their progress. The operators highlighted the steady growth of the guesthouse industry on the island, noting that around 15 guesthouses are currently operational, with an additional five to six under construction.
A key point of discussion was the operators’ appeal to ensure that the community and tourists have access to a nearby picnic island, suggesting Athafaru as an alternative should Bodukaashihuraa remain unavailable.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured the guesthouse operators of the Administration’s full support in addressing their concerns, noting that arrangements would be made to enable picnic excursions for Hangnaameedhoo residents.
