President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed the Government’s full commitment to advancing the growth of football in the Maldives.
He gave this assurance during an evening tea hosted in honour of the national football team at Citron by Lemongrass today.
The President observed that football is the sport most beloved by Maldivians, including himself, and emphasised that the Government would provide all necessary support to further its development. He added that football would continue to hold a central place within the wider framework of national sports advancement.
In this context, the President highlighted ongoing initiatives to expand football across the islands, together with projects to strengthen facilities and infrastructure that promote sporting excellence and encourage physical fitness throughout the country.
Reflecting on the national team’s recent triumph in the South Asian Super Cup 2025, the President commended their dedication and urged them to continue bringing pride and honour to the Maldives in the future.
The President was joined by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed, and President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Ahmed Thoriq.
