His Excellency Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef,
His Excellency Ambassador Kong Xianhua,
Cabinet Ministers,
Parliament Members,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Assalam-alaikum and a very good evening.
It is with immense joy and sincere admiration that I join you this evening to celebrate the National Day of the People’s Republic of China. On this auspicious occasion, on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to His Excellency President Xi Jinping, the Government, and the friendly people of China.
The First of October is more than a date in history. It is the embodiment of a nation’s rebirth. It is a reminder of how the determination of a people can transform destiny. In the span of just seventy-five years, China has risen from the shadows of adversity to stand tall as one of the most dynamic and influential nations of our era. From the eradication of extreme poverty to breakthroughs in technology, from bridges that connect cities to satellites that connect worlds—China’s story is not merely one of progress. It is a story of vision, perseverance, and the boundless potential of human spirit.
Excellencies,
For the Maldives, China has always been more than a distant friend. Our ties are written not only in agreements and exchanges, but in memories, in shared journeys, and in the trust that comes along with genuine friendship.
I remember with warmth my own experiences in China, where I witnessed firsthand the grandeur of your achievements, but also the humility and hospitality of your people. Those moments reminded me that our relationship is not measured in steel and stone, but in the bonds of respect, empathy, and solidarity between our peoples.
This friendship is reflected here in Malé—in the bridges that connect our communities, in the housing that shelters our families, in the classrooms where our young minds prepare for the future. And it is reflected in the thousands of Chinese visitors who choose Maldives as their holiday home away from home, making tourism not only an industry, but a living link between our nations.
Excellencies,
As an island nation, we in the Maldives know too well the fragility of existence in a rapidly changing world. We face the rising seas, the shifting tides of the global economy, and the urgent call to protect our environment for generations yet unborn. In these struggles, we look not only for partners in development, but for partners in vision.
China has consistently stood with the Maldives and other small island states in advancing the cause of sustainability, resilience, and fairness in the global arena. We value China’s commitment to multilateralism, its voice in championing the rights of developing nations, and its willingness to walk beside us as we shape a world where no country, however small, is left behind.
Excellencies,
Today, as we celebrate the founding of the People’s Republic of China, we are also celebrating the idea that friendship among nations can be a bridge—stronger than steel, enduring across generations, and able to withstand the storms of time. The Maldives looks forward to deepening this friendship: in politics, in trade, in culture, in education, and in the shared dream of a sustainable and prosperous future.
May the red flag of China continue to rise with pride and purpose. May the journey of the Chinese people continue to inspire the world. And may the friendship between the Maldives and China remain as constant as the ocean that unites us, and as enduring as the stars that guide us.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, I once again extend heartfelt congratulations on this National Day, with prayers for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the People’s Republic of China.
Thank you.
