President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to shaping a sustainable, people-centred and innovative future for the nation’s tourism sector. He conveyed this message in his statement marking World Tourism Day.

In his message, the President highlighted that the success of the industry, through which the Maldives has become a global leader in hospitality and tourism, was a testament to the vision and determination of its pioneers.

He noted that this year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” aligned closely with national priorities, promoting progress while ensuring that tourism remains a force for positive change. In this regard, he pointed to significant advances towards building a more inclusive and sustainable model of tourism, with diversification at its core. Over the past few years, the Maldivian tourism sector has expanded into less-engaged atolls and diversified into new areas, including halal tourism.

The President stressed that these efforts were supported by major infrastructure projects, such as the new international terminal at Velana International Airport, which he said was in line with the nation’s broader development goals.

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to all those working tirelessly in the sector, emphasising that their dedication and service are what truly set the Maldivian experience apart. He added that the future vision for the sector rests on the hard work, unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions of these individuals.

Concluding his message, the President once again renewed his commitment to shape a sustainable, people-centred and innovative future for Maldivian tourism.

The President also shared World Tourism Day greetings on his official X account, reiterating his commitment to building a future where progress and sustainability go hand in hand.
