President Dr Mohamed Muizzu affirmed that practical work on the Buruni harbour development will begin and progress without delay. He made the statement during a meeting with residents and community leaders of Kolhumadulu Buruni, as part of his ongoing tour of four atolls.
At the meeting, representatives of the Island Council, local institutions, and residents put forward proposals and voiced concerns regarding the island’s key development priorities.
The President announced that a housing scheme comprising 30 units will be included in the 2026 state budget. He also revealed that the shore protection project is being redesigned to incorporate a jetty for reef fishing, in response to the aspirations of the island’s youth. He further emphasised that upcoming projects in infrastructure, education, health, and housing will be implemented with full consideration of residents’ needs and priorities.
An agreement was also signed at the meeting, contracting Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop an outdoor volleyball court on the island.
The meeting, held at Buruni School, provided an opportunity for the President to listen to residents’ concerns and recommendations, while sharing updates on ongoing and planned projects through ministers and heads of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) in his delegation.
