President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday assured residents that the construction of 300 housing units in Muli will commence next year. He made the remarks during a visit to Muli in Mulaku Atoll, as part of his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.
The President explained that the project will be carried out in two phases: the first phase, consisting of 150 housing units, is scheduled to begin in February, while the second phase, comprising the remaining 150 units, will commence in September. He further stated that the Government intends to disburse funds to eligible applicants under the housing loan scheme in the near future, with a new round of applications set to open next year.
Highlighting ongoing development efforts in Muli, the President noted that preparations are under way to facilitate night flights at Muli Airport, with operations expected to begin in October once the necessary arrangements are complete. He also pledged to resolve electricity supply challenges by sourcing a new generator before the end of the year.
Addressing the delayed construction of the causeway linking Muli and Nalaafushi, the President attributed the setback to design changes but assured residents that the project would be completed soon.
He further announced that new initiatives to strengthen education and healthcare services in Muli would be launched and completed in the near future.
During the event, agreements were signed to transfer responsibility for the island’s waste management project to WAMCO and to implement coastal protection measures for Muli.
