President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday assured residents of Maduvvari that construction of a new leeward harbour would begin early next year. He made the announcement during a visit to the island in Mulaku Atoll, part of his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

The meeting was attended by members of the Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee, and local residents, who briefed the President on the community’s most pressing concerns.

President Dr Muizzu confirmed that the harbour project would be prioritised among the island’s development needs. He also pledged to initiate sports infrastructure projects to enhance recreational facilities.

During the gathering, the President listened to concerns voiced by council members and residents, and held discussions on future plans. He was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises, who provided updates on ongoing development projects.
