President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday unveiled a comprehensive plan to revitalise the fisheries sector and accelerate infrastructure development in M. Mulah, as part of his ongoing tour of four atolls.
Addressing residents of the island, President Dr Muizzu detailed several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the local fishing industry. These include the establishment of a 30-tonne ice plant, the ongoing construction of a cold storage facility, and the launch of a fuel skid project scheduled for January. The President underscored that these developments are part of a broader national strategy to modernise the fisheries sector, which he described as having been in decline when his Administration assumed office.
In addition to fisheries, President Dr Muizzu announced a series of infrastructure projects for Mulah. Construction of 50 housing units is set to begin this year, while harbour development efforts will be expedited. He also pledged to address the island’s long-standing issue of coastal erosion.
The President confirmed that the island’s Health Centre would be upgraded to a hospital, with work commencing immediately. He added that the road development project and the new Fitness and Recreation Centre would be completed within four months. The eastern jetty is scheduled to break ground before March next year, and the school expansion project is expected to be completed in time for the new academic year.
He further pledged to resolve a 14-year-old issue concerning the lack of police vehicles on the island by October.
