President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Saturday that the land reclamation project for Keyodhoo will commence early next year. He made the remarks while addressing the residents of Felidheatholhu Keyodhoo, during his tour of inhabited islands in four atolls.
Noting that this was a pledge made during the Presidential campaign, the President said land reclamation for the island was an absolute necessity for the island’s development and progress. Therefore, the decision was made to include this initiative in next year’s budget, with the work scheduled to commence early in the year.
Agreements to construct a new building for the island’s health centre and a four-storey building for the school were signed during the President’s meeting with the residents.
Referring to these agreements, the President said the new health centre building, once completed, will have a bed capacity of 20. He further noted that, with the new school building, students will have access to more open areas, halls, and other facilities, while the school’s electricity issues would also be addressed through the installation of central ACs in classrooms.
The President further noted that the island was fast becoming a hub for local tourism, pledging to install a US dollar ATM on the island before March next year.
As part of the visit, the foundation for the new Council Secretariat was also laid.
