Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said that there are ten more youth who need drug rehabilitation treatment for every single youth who is currently under treatment at the Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Dr. Waheed made the statement, speaking at a function held last evening at the Drug Rehabilitation Centre to mark its 12th anniversary and the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Furthermore, Dr. Waheed said that not being able to provide drug rehabilitation treatment at the Centre for all those who require the treatment is a major problem.

Speaking about the effort being put in to fighting against drugs, Dr. Waheed acknowledged the role of Maldives Police Service and Maldives Customs Service for their co-operation in reducing the availability of drugs in the country.

Addressing the victims of drugs at the Rehabilitation Centre, Dr Waheed said that if they valued their lives, it would not be difficult for them to overcome their addiction.

The Vice President said that the government is working to make Drug Rehabilitation treatment available in near future, for all those who are in need.
