His Excellency Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has returned to Malé following his participation in the Berlin Climate Mobility Forum 2026 in Germany, where he served as a keynote speaker.

Prior to the Forum’s opening, the Vice President attended the Leaders Gala Dinner hosted by the UN’s Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, which brought together participants for meaningful dialogue on shared priorities ahead of the Forum.

At the High-Level Leaders Session, he called for stronger international cooperation and increased climate finance to support vulnerable countries in addressing the growing challenges of climate mobility, underscoring that such efforts must prioritise community resilience and ensure that any movement of people is planned, voluntary, and dignified.

He further delivered a statement at the High-Level Panel discussion on Protecting Rights in the Face of Sea-Level Rise, emphasising that safeguarding rights in the face of sea-level rise demands sustained investment in adaptation and coordinated partnerships across all levels of governance, and that communities must be supported to remain where they choose, with dignity.

Also as part of his engagements, he attended the Champions Breakfast, a high-level closed-door dialogue convened by the organisers to reflect on key outcomes from the Forum, strengthen collaboration, and advance shared commitments toward achieving the Global Consensus on Climate Mobility.

Throughout the Forum, the Vice President shared the Maldives’ perspectives on climate mobility principles and emphasised the need for increased climate financing and adaptation measures in support of vulnerable nations.
