His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the “SCO Plus” Meeting held today in Tianjin, China.

The meeting commenced with opening remarks by His Excellency President Xi Jinping, who underscored the importance of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity across the region and beyond through SCO initiatives. He also introduced the Global Governance Initiative (GCI), the latest in a series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi aimed at reshaping international cooperation, development, and governance.

In his statement, President Dr Muizzu positioned the Maldives as a resilient and forward-looking nation, highlighting its longstanding friendship with China, its ambitious climate commitments, and the transformative “Maldives 2.0”digitalisation agenda. He reiterated the Maldives’ support for the Global Governance Initiative and called for greater inclusion of Small Island Developing States in international decision-making processes.

The President also reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian people and urged the international community to stand united in advocating for their rights.

The “SCO Plus” Meeting serves as an expanded platform for dialogue, bringing together SCO member states, partner countries, and international organisations to address common challenges in security, economic integration, and global governance.
