President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that, upon the completion of the Kurin’bi Health Centre, the facility will operate as a 24-hour service provider, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential healthcare services.

President Dr Muizzu provided this assurance while addressing the residents of Kurin’bi during his visit to the inhabited islands of South Thiladhunmathi Atoll.

The construction of the new building for the Kurin’bi Health Centre has officially been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), as announced today. The President stated that the new building will enable the expansion of services provided by the Kurin’bi Health Centre. He noted that additional wards, a laboratory, and public health units will be incorporated into the facility. Furthermore, he affirmed that efforts are underway to extend the centre’s operating hours to 16 hours daily, even before the new premises are completed.

President Dr Muizzu noted that the construction of the Kurin’bi harbour is progressing in line with his pledge, affirming that the development will reflect the aspirations of the local community. He stated that the port will be completed with the modifications requested by residents, and that a second phase will focus on safeguarding the surrounding marine environment. This includes the establishment of a dockyard and measures to ensure the long-term protection of the island’s coastline.

The President announced that the multi-purpose hall building project for Kurin’bi School, signed today, will include four additional classrooms upon completion, further enhancing the school’s capacity.

Speaking on the Government’s efforts to enhance sports infrastructure, President Dr Muizzu stated that, in addition to developing a football field, a futsal court and a handball court will also be established in the designated area. He assured the public that the futsal court will be completed within the year, reaffirming his Administration’s commitment to expanding recreational opportunities for youth and the wider community.

Ahead of the President’s meeting with the residents of Kurin’bi, the Bank of Maldives ATM service was inaugurated on the island, in addition to the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Fitness and Recreation Centre.

President Dr Muizzu assured the residents of Kurin’bi that his administration will undertake the necessary measures across key sectors to advance the island’s development.
