President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated Onuhiya, the senior citizens’ park in Haa Alifu Utheemu.
Following the inauguration, President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed planted Haivakaru (teak) trees in the square in memory of Boduthakurufaanu.
As part of the official National Day activities in Utheemu, the foundation stone for the Boduthakurufaanu Gate was also laid today, commencing the practical work of the Ghazee Bandaarain Heritage Revival Project. The event was officiated by the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim.
The Boduthakurufaanu Gate has been designed to symbolise the six heroes of Kalhuohfummi, the revival of Islam, and the culture and independence of the Maldivian people. Its six pillars, modelled on those of traditional Maldivian mosques, represent the six heroes who fought for Maldivian independence. The six lights that will illuminate the gate at night signify the enduring memory of their service to the nation.
The ceremony was attended by the President and First Lady, together with the Vice President, the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, the Chief Justice of the Maldives, and other senior Government officials.
