President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that financing has been secured for infrastructure projects requiring rock boulders, with work set to commence soon. He made the announcement while addressing the community of B. Maalhos during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands of South Maalhosmadulu Atoll.

The President reaffirmed that resolving the island’s harbour issues was a key presidential pledge and vowed to expedite the project. He explained that many development projects across the islands required rock boulders, which necessitated significant funding. While this had taken some time to arrange, he confirmed that the necessary financing for this component is now in place.

Describing the harbour development project as a catalyst for further progress, the President said that once the harbour is completed, the island’s powerhouse would be relocated to the land reclaimed through the project. He added that the works would also incorporate sustainable measures to combat land erosion.

Outlining health and welfare initiatives, the President stated that the planned health centre extension would bring new facilities to the island. He further pledged to complete the football ground, fitness and recreation centre, and outdoor gym within this year.

On education, the President said the Administration was committed to addressing space constraints at Maalhos School and would seek public input when developing the school premises.

Earlier in the day, the President inaugurated Bank of Maldives ATM services on the island and attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for a new police office and a mosque.
