President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the B. Maalhos Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions today to address the island’s most pressing development needs. The meeting took place at Maalhos School.
The Council members requested expediting the island’s harbour development, improving and expanding electricity services, as well as relocating the powerhouse. The members urged a permanent solution to flooding in the island. The Council noted plans to allocate space for local tourism in the land use plan and expressed interest in creating a dedicated tourist beach. Acknowledging the Government's efforts to improve sports facilities for the youth, they requested all works on the football field to be completed concurrently.
The Council also highlighted that no infrastructural upgrades have been made to improve education on the island for the past 15 years and expressed hope for change in this area. They requested for construction of a multipurpose hall, expansion of the staff room and a dedicated office building for the school.
President Dr Muizzu assured the Council that the Government would give due consideration to their concerns and work towards practical solutions. He also provided updates on ongoing development projects, accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises.
