President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that his Administration is committed to ensuring equal access to basic services for all islands, irrespective of population size. He made the remarks this morning while meeting residents of B. Fehendhoo, one of the least populated islands in the nation.
During the meeting, the President reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the pledges made during the presidential election, emphasising that those promises were made with the clear intention of being delivered. He stressed that the Government’s policy is to serve citizens by establishing essential services in line with the needs of the population, regardless of an island’s size.
Highlighting that stalled water and sanitation projects were among Fehendhoo’s most pressing concerns, the President assured residents that these projects would be resumed and completed. He also pledged to prioritise the recruitment of teachers for middle and secondary grades, adding that if there are insufficient qualified candidates, the Government will train additional teachers to meet the demand.
The President further announced that initiatives will be implemented over the next two years to enhance health and wellness services, including the expansion of the health centre and the provision of additional resources. Plans for the island’s sports and recreational facilities include the development of a full-sized football ground, the renovation of the futsal pitch, a new volleyball court, a fitness and recreation centre, an outdoor gym, and a children’s park.
Addressing the challenges in access to and from the island, the President pledged to include the construction of a jetty along with coastal protection in next year’s budget.
Earlier in the day, he inaugurated Bank of Maldives ATM services on the island, and attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fehendhoo Police Station.
