Her Excellency Ikuina Akiko, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday afternoon at the President’s Office.
President Dr Muizzu warmly welcomed the Japanese delegation, expressing his gratitude for their visit to the Maldives to witness the Independence Day celebrations. The Special Envoy conveyed her deep honour at being invited to attend the commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence.
During the meeting, the President and the Special Envoy reflected on the enduring partnership and close friendship between the Maldives and Japan, underscoring over five decades of people-to-people ties and bilateral cooperation. Their discussions covered a range of collaborative areas, including economic development, infrastructure, disaster resilience and management, telecommunications, and capacity-building.
Concluding the call, President Dr Muizzu expressed his hope for enhanced collaboration and further strengthening of existing relations. The Special Envoy reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and expanding avenues of cooperation.
