The President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, delivered joint press statements this afternoon at the President’s Office, following official talks held as part of the Indian Prime Minister’s state visit to the Maldives.

President Dr Muizzu reflected on the successes of the shared developmental journey between the two countries, emphasising the outcomes of their discussions and the significance of the concluded Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), agreements, and the virtual inauguration of joint projects. He stated that a clear path for future cooperation has been charted, highlighting India’s continued assistance to the Maldives through the export of essential commodities as a key facet of bilateral cooperation under the longstanding trade agreement. The President also acknowledged the numerous developmental initiatives and economic partnerships that have strengthened ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, reflecting upon the close friendship between India and the Maldives. He reiterated that India has always stood by the Maldives as a first responder, whether in providing essential commodities or supporting economic stability, and emphasised that for him, it was “friendship first.”

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, underscoring the importance of the agreements signed and the projects launched during this visit as milestones in their shared journey of progress and partnership.
