President Dr Mohamed Muizzu affirmed that the new Masterplan for Hulhumalé would guarantee sustainable development with a long-term vision. He delivered these remarks at the inauguration of the Hulhumalé Masterplan and the newly updated official website, which had been enhanced to strengthen the management of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The President highlighted that the revised Masterplan for Hulhumalé was designed to provide better quality of life across various areas to around 300,000 people. He encouraged collective efforts from all parties to help turn the revised Hulhumalé Masterplan into a reality.

Following the launch of the Hulhumalé Revised Masterplan, the President underlined that the plan would support Hulhumalé’s development as a financial seat within the Greater Malé Region. He recognised the ongoing efforts to ease congestion in Malé City and noted that Hulhumalé’s development should respond to these challenges by leveraging the opportunities in the revised plan. He further affirmed that the Government is committed to ensuring agencies work together to make these plans a reality.

In addition, the official website, upgraded to improve HDC’s operations, was unveiled during the ceremony. This website served as an important gateway for efficient governance. The revamped platform, launched by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar, featured several improvements designed to enhance service delivery.

The President explained that changes are currently being implemented in the governance structures of various state-owned companies. These changes involve adjustments to leadership and internal teams to ensure that the companies operate transparently and within a framework free from corruption that promotes good governance. He highlighted that HDC has already begun to demonstrate the positive results of these reforms.

The upgraded HDC website is designed to make it easier for people to access the services and streamlining processes such as building and bid approvals. The website also features a whistleblower portal, which improves accountability in the company’s operations.

The President stressed that Government ministries, companies, and institutions needed maximum transparency to eliminate corruption. He pointed out that improving the quality of services provided to the public depended on removing corrupt practices, and that income must come through legitimate and proper means.

He expressed satisfaction with HDC’s efforts in these reforms and noted that similar initiatives rolled out by other ministries and Government companies were also gaining positive traction.

The President concluded by assuring that all the commitments made for Hulhumalé would be swiftly implemented with the backing of HDC.

The revised Hulhumalé Masterplan aims to enhance public life, boost economic sustainability, and promote long-term, sustainable development.
